Until they do this is what I have found to be able to print half-fold envelopes (A9). It seems HP and Hallmark could come to terms with this and correct the problem.

Also, have you used it with other printers, successfully, and if so, what seems to be different with the 5540? I am not familiar with your Hallmark program. Then pull the plastic guides in from the side firmly into the envelope stock. Inkjet printers with a front load tray: Front of envelope facing down and the flap to the left.
